Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

What is WETSCAPES2.0?
WETSCAPES2.0 is a collaborative research project focused on peatland landscapes, integrating environmental monitoring, data analysis, and interdisciplinary research across multiple sites.

Who can use the WETSCAPES2.0 data and tools?
Access depends on the data and application. Many datasets follow open science principles, while others may require authentication or project-level permissions.

Data Access & Retrieval

How can I access sensor data?
Sensor data can be accessed through the dedicated retrieval applications, which provide raw, harmonized, and processed datasets via user-friendly interfaces and APIs.

What is the difference between raw and harmonized data?
Raw data represents direct sensor measurements, while harmonized data has been standardized, made human-readable, and formatted for easier comparison and analysis.

What is the difference between harmonized and processed data?
Harmonized data has been standardized, made human-readable, and formatted for easier comparison and analysis, while processed data is run through numerous tests and checks for validating its quality.

Can I access real-time data?
Yes, real-time or near-real-time monitoring is available through the sensor monitoring applications, depending on the sensor and data stream.

Is there a way to search for datasets across sites and time periods?
Yes, the platform provides spatial and temporal search and aggregation tools to help users discover and combine datasets efficiently.

Metadata & Documentation

Where can I find metadata for sensors and datasets?
Metadata is accessible through dedicated metadata retrieval tools and is also stored alongside datasets in the central repository.

What metadata standards are used?
The project follows established metadata and documentation practices aligned with FAIR principles to ensure interoperability and reuse.

Data Storage & Sharing

Where are the data stored?
Data are primarily stored in a central repository based on CKAN at the University of Greifswald, with alternative storage solutions at the University of Rostock, available to members.

Can I download datasets?
Yes, datasets can typically be downloaded directly via the repository or accessed programmatically via APIs.

Are there restrictions on data usage?
Some datasets are openly available, while others may have restrictions due to ongoing research, privacy, or collaboration agreements.

Policies & Quality

How is data quality ensured?
The project applies multi-level quality control procedures, including automated checks and dataset-level validation.

What are the data usage policies?
Data usage is governed by project-specific policies that define access rights, citation requirements, and conditions for reuse.

Do I need to cite the data?
Yes, proper citation of datasets and associated publications is required when using WETSCAPES2.0 data.

Technical & Tools

What tools are available for data analysis?
Users can access project-specific applications as well as university-wide platforms such as AppHub, UniApps, and UniComp.

Can I access the data programmatically?
Yes, APIs and standardized interfaces are available for automated data retrieval and integration into workflows.

I am experiencing technical issues—what should I do?
Please contact the RDM team or use the support section on the issue-specific website. Providing details about the issue will help resolve it faster.

Images & Media

Where can I find images from field campaigns?
Images are available via the Piwigo-based image server, which organizes and provides access to visual documentation.
